Each one himself is like an open retail outlet.Mobile companies can make best use of them.Each company or two can chose one and each one can sell respective comapny's SIM cards,mobile recharge and as well advertise by wearing company's t-shirs,give them shelter cloth made of company's print etc.

The idea is about building up the social enterprise of the cycle auto rickshaws. So I’d set up a social enterprise taking the existing users/Drivers as the partners. Teach them how to give better service to passengers by teaching them soft skills, dress up the proper uniforms, cleane shaved daily, make your rickshaw neat and clean and paint it with an attractive colors. Make the seat comfortable. Don’t smoke and allow passengers to do so. Keep the latest city map with you. Keep up to date knowledge about your city. I’d tie up with banks and financial institutions or a micro-finance company to finance for the purchase of new Rickshaw as well as for their small needs. Provide the medical /life insurance cover to the drivers. Teach them the saving habits and to plan their retirements. Make available the proper rickshaw stands with the help of Municipal Corporation. Make the standardization of fairs. Make arrangements for advertising banners in front of the passengers and at the backside of the rickshaws. Furthering the idea, they can also be distributed wheel chairs free of cost in the name of business. The business name can be written on a plate which will remain fixed up on the back/sides of the chair. Such an employment shall be commission based and, hence, their performance shall also get accounted for thus giving them true sense of achievement and personal efficacy.

This is how a businessman/entrepreneur, through his innovative idea, can make such people employed and self-dependent as well. Such an idea can also bring profits to the business and shall give satisfaction of discharging social responsibility.

Thought Process:
Looking for a solution which can generate some business in terms of advertisement and still touch upon basic needs to the people shown in the picture.

Business Idea:
Any advertisement company can adopt the vehicles and provide cover from three sides and from the top to the current Rickshaw at low cost. This will act as a shade for the person driving the vehicle and will give larger area where the advertisement companies can print the ads.

Each of the person should drive the vehicle/Rickshaw they have around a specific area. It will act as a add media without electricity and petrol and will stick to the concept of "Green solutions for advertisement".

To attract people besides making the visual appeal, each of the driver should be strategically placed at spots like railway station, bus station or any tourist place. The person should be able to act as "help line" to help any new visitor in the city with basic information about the city, how to move around, bus schedules or any such modes free of cost.

The goal of attaching the "concept of help line" is to attract people to come and interact with the Rickshaw drivers and spend more time around the Rickshaw to increase the probability of them viewing the advertisement on the Rickshaw. While the person is helping with the queries they can also pass on any pamphlets if the advertiser wants to do that.

Each drive should also be given some uniform (if possible in green color) to make some brand image out of it. This will also enable to them to get spotted easily in busy places and will be one more advertisement tool. Votes: +1

The Business Idea which came up to my mind seeing the picture of December Business Idea contest is follows:

1.Open a training institute to train the handicapped people in making soft toys, cards, jute bags, jute purses etc. Select the people through counseling for the training.
2.Open a manufacturing unit to employ these trained handicapped people
3.Open gift shops along with PCO to sell these manufactured items. Again, employ the handicapped people, who are not selected for training, to handle the shop. Advantage of having PCO is that customer come to make call can see the gift item & may buy immediately or become the future customer for the shop. Apart from this, PCO will generate revenue that will help to stabilize the business for selling gift items since the gift items business will take time to make profit handsomely to maintain these employees.
4.Develop the website to sell these items online

The good thing about this business is that the contribution will be done towards welfare of society & at the end of day making profit also.

This would ensure advertisement for the company opting for the service and will also generate some income for the people who use the tricycle to move about. My business idea for the picture shown above is named "HoPE Rangers". It would be the

title given to the riders of the tricycle; and where "HoPE" stands for Home, Pride and

Employment.

"HoPE Rangers" comprises two parts:

Infusion of money into a Charity named "HoPE Rangers"
Generation of money by a business named "HoPE Rangers"

Here's how:

"Ho" = Home

The idea can ensure that a good percentage of the recipients of the cycle are homeless

people, who have to sleep on the streets and other public places like bus sheds etc.

With this, they can at least be provided with a place to sit during the day time and

keep some of their necessary 'valuables' like water bottle, a piece of cloth or two etc

in the cycle - thereby giving them a feel of a "space that is entirely their own", a

"space that they can call home".

"P" = Pride

Apart from having a "home" which they can move away, apart WITH DIGNITY in the wake of

any stricture by public or administration, they can be given a specified clothes that

they can wear all day long and also definite IDs - thereby providing them with the

dignity / pride of 'working professionals'.

"E" = Employment, which would fund the above two costs

The tricylce would act as a moving billboard
The tricycle would act as a traffic signal, and the "HoPE Ranger" as traffic volunteer
The tricycle would act as road mopper
The "HoPE Rangers" would be hired by Municipal Corporations to water plants along roads
The "HoPE Rangers" would act as police informers
The "HoPE Rangers" would be hired to deliver posts by government
The "Hope Rangers" can act as dabba-wallahs
... and so on ...

Once the entire cost is recovered, the "HoPE Rangers" become the rightful owners of the tricycle and only give the government/business house a little royalty for all times to come.

The physically challenged men shown in the photo can start their own business on a small scale using their own sense of intuition to learn the most marketable product of the times and selling it:

Some suggestions would be:

In the morning they can deliver milk,newspapers etc.,

During festivals like Vinayaga Chathurthi (Vinayaga Idols/Sacred grass), Diwali(Crackers) , the special items sold during those times can be sold at a good margin.

They can also setup a mini sandwich & Coffee/Tea shop using a sandwich maker & a coffee maker and sell them to office going people in the morning. Evening also they can sell coffee/tea.

They can also carry mobile/fax/printer/xerox machines that come in compact sizes with them and put it to use to earn more money.

In the evening and night, they can choose crowded shopping areas or seek employment with crowded shopping malls to do face painting, mehendi, nail polish, make up etc., for women and shoe polish, tattooing for men and face painting for kids, and portrait making for all.

They can also setup a small evening/daytime (mobile or static) arts school for teaching glass painting, portrait making, face painting, pottery, cloth painting and other small arts.This will help them make a lot of money even though learning these arts is very easy(I know someone who learnt these arts.)

Once they have enough money, they can also go for solar powered wheelchairs as suggested by others and earn more money.

Following that they can set up their own stall (not too expensive) and then probably a bigger shop/arts school when its possible.

The cycles can be fitted with solar powered head lights to enable them to operate in the night as well as to avoid accidents.

Operating a shop in the evenings and an arts school during the daytime will be a perfect combination for them!

A public park with four tri-cycles:
1.Lending library: Were visitors can borrow some daily news papers or small comics book for affordable bucks. Example-we can provide HINDU NEWSPAPRER 1rs/- for fifteen mins.General magazine for 3rs/- or even monthly member basis as Rs.50/month.

2.Health drinks shop: visitors can have some Health drinks or healthy food which they can have before or after exercise. Example-we can provide a hygienic soup, malt milk, eggs ect for morning exercise.

3.Exercise equipment lending Shop: we can lend some small exercise equipments like dumb-bell, Hand grips, exercise bi-cycle ect. Example: we can provide dumbbell 3rs for fifteen minutes, exercise bicycle 5rs/-for ten minutes or even monthly member basis as Rs. 75/month.

4.Sports equipment lending Shop: We can lend small sports equipments like shuttle bat, air ball for children’s.

Advantages:
1.People like to read different daily news so they will use lending library.
2.Exercise doing people can get all in one place they no need to carry anything with them. They can work out in pleasant atmosphere.

My idea is to provide a solution for 2 different problems faced in the context of this picture.
1) The rickshawwallas look old and may not be willing to change and
may be content with whatever they are earning already.The reason
they are idle is also because People do not take these rikshaws
either out of pity, or lack of (perceived)speed
2) The common man today handles a wide variety of digital electronic
devices(mobiles, music players,etc) and there is a need to
constantly charge the batteries. The only option is to visit a
friendly mobile shop or convenience store where he
can charge. He then has to wait till his device gets charged.

So, the proposal is to fix a dynamo to the cycle rickshaw and convert the mechanical energy to electrical energy. With amplifiers and assosciated circuitry, a charging point can be created on the rickshaw. So people now have more reasons to travel in the rickshaw and user can go where he wants while his device is charging. Telecom companies can use it to provide as many adapters as the devices they want to support.
The rickshaw can then become a advertsing board for the service provider as well.A nominal fee can be charged for extra service if required.

This way, the rickshaw puller continues to do what he was doing. More people will use their services for added benefit. The solution is also green and benefits everyone.

Here's a business model:

We use various services for which periodical/frequent bill payments need be made viz. Electricity Bills, Telephone/mobile phone Bills, Local Authority Taxes, Internet Bills etc.

in urban India, majority of customers availing such services belong to the service (employment)class. Very few banks, service providers offer working hours that suite to its customers of 9.30 - 6.30 working class. So payment of utility bills becomes a difficult and special task for such class.

To mitigate this issue, various private service providers have started installing 24*7 electronic machines (which is a costly affair)

Now here comes my business plan:

1. Gather handicapped/ partially disabled people (As seen in the photograph)

2. Contact all such utilities service providers and offer them the option of collection of cheques/payments for them

3. Now once these partially disabled people are properly trained, they will be allotted different areas. This area allotment will be done considering no of Companies/ offices are situated in a particular area.

4. Security deposits could be taken from these people.

5. Tricycles could also be provided to these people and which will also be used for advertisements.

6. Now, what these people will do is keep roaming in their allotted area for fixed working hours, collect payments for the bills etc at the end of day's duty collect the proceed in the office from where the same will be forwarded to the respective service providers.

7. Company will earn commission on such collection.

This business model is useful because,
1. It will prove to be a helping hand for handicapped/ disabled people
2. It will be optimum utilisation of available human resources
3. Companies will get such services at cheaper rates together with the mobile advertisement on these tricycles.
4. Ultimately, clients will benefit, customers will benefit, a large section of such disabled people will benefit they will get work and regular remuneration, and the Company will earn too.

first thing that comes to mind is, how we Indians can positively put to use

their manpower & at the same time move India in the direction of

tourist-friendly, environment conscious nation by implementing effective

ways to reduce the Global Carbon Emissions (for earning carbon

safer, dependable, environment-friendly tourist services through socially

We have crowded streets; making it difficult for tourists to see places at

leisure. Utilizing the services of the physically challenged is one such

business idea. It makes them self-sufficient. Either Govt should organize

on its own (which is difficult) or direct banks to register handicapped

personnel & offer loans for buying/leasing tricycles. Its also possible for

the banks to buy tricycles & give them on profit sharing basis. Further,

Banks can even offer this as an ancillary service to tourists besides their

Forex services. This way the intricate network of banks (like SBI) can be

used to create parking bays or starting points for local tours. A fixed

charge for a local tour will also help the bank get paid in the begining &

help share profits. For tourists, banks will serve as an assurance of not

getting cheated. The tricycles can be specially designed by IITs for

being pollution free & for accommodating only 2 people besides the

driver. The design needs to be very Indian & NOT stylish so they get the

'indian cyclerickshaw' feel. Front facing seating will help them look

around as they approach. Govt can simultaneously create special tracks

& parking bays (at sites)for these tricycles. This probably will be the

cheapest mode that will be included in the iternary of international

It is an opportune time to give employment to the physically handicapped. The Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) that these handicapped persons have been provided with shall be fitted with a special fitment that shall collect the fallen leaves and other debris of the public grounds (one in the background) and even the dust on the roads. These SPVs shall have the ability to access the remote nook and corners where the big machines fail to reach. Keeping all these in mind, I feel a good business model should revolve around green revolution focusing mainly on green transport+ fitness focused lifestyle. So, my business plan will be to start a bicycle renting venture serving to people who visit the garden/ park. Given the fact that a lot of Indians are of variety seeking nature, daily morning/evening walk can become too monotonous because of which they might lose interest gradually and discontinue the same. Cycling on the other hand could be quite joyous, provide variety in offering and will in fact help them in burning more calories. Now use these covered Tricycles, running with an electric motor/engine to transport goods within the city.

For physically challenged people mobility is an important aspect. So we have a tricycle cart for them (As shown in the picture) we also have motor tricycle running in petrol specially designed for these people. But petrol tricycles are expensive, thus not affordable for the mass uses.
My business plan is to develop a solar tricycle at a low cost. Solar power will save on the running cost of the cycle as well as provide the desired mobility to these people. Since a manual autorikshaw is very slow , it can be promoted as luggage transport service. People who have arrived in the Bus station or the Railway station with lot of luggage which cannot fit into the Auto Rikshaw could get their luggage transported through the manual one, though it may arrive at the destination little later. The manual autorikshaw should be registered so that their complete details are available and also the luggage list to bew maintained so that it is completly traceable and reliable service.

A handicap which can ride hand-driven rickshaw can drive auto-rickshaw if the rickshaw is fitted with a hand-break instead of a foot-break. A handicap who is riding a manual rickshaw is not driving auto-rickshaw since he can not afford the price of rickshaw and the running cost. These days, most of the auto-rickshaws are very much in demand and they try to take advantage of the commuters by asking hefty/random fares. If handicaps could also drive autorickshaws they wouldn't be misbehaving that way because they are struggling for their livelihood. Usually handicaps mostly depend on others for their livelihood. Govt or a private agency can promote auto-rickshaws for handicaps which has:
1. different color to distinguish a normal autorickshaw from handicap's autorickshaw. This will help people easily identify handicaps and by hiring an handicap autorickshaw they know they are helping a handicap.
2. The autorickshaws are given on lease to the handicaps
3. For collecting the rents/fare-share, the agency can do one of the following:
a) handicap autorickshaw fitted with a wireless card-reader. The commuter should only pay through the card-reader. Some g;e of fare goes directly to the agency. To avoid drivers cheating the agency, a sensor can be fitted on the rear fly-wheel to detect if a person or load is present on the back seat.
b) The autorickshaw distance-meter gets monitored by the agency every month and it charges money from the drivers based on the distance driven.
c) Coupons: At a handicap autorickshaw stand, a person can take coupon of possible denominations (10, 50, 100) and pay the money to the driver in the form of coupon instead of cash.

The moment I looked at the photograph I thought they should be given a proper parking facility that too which is covered on the roof, so that when they park their tricycles they are not exposed to the hot sun during the day and get wet in the rains, as it is difficult to get down and walk to a restaurant or a small food outlet, we provide them food delivered to their tricycle rikshaw. for this service we can charge them the operational cost plus some minimum profit so that it is not hard on their pocket and we get our revenues on the quantity of persons that come to our drive in food outlet. The man walking in the picture is a man with a vision and he finds an opportunity in people seen ,by giving them much more sophisticated cycle ,where he can distribute his products.He can train these people in batches and make them available in locales where in there probability of more visibility for his products for example stationery items and cosmetics .The pan wala concept can work here and this initiative can be huge success if it is done in systematic way.He can build a brand with these team of Unique People with a common uniform allotted to all and spread the network in different phases.

This will act as unique attraction for customers and at the same time with this the people involved can also live a respectable life with pride.

The tricycle should be motorised preferably with a low capacity engine & giving a high mileage. A carrier can be fixed behind with a holding capacity of around 200-250 Kgs. & the handicapped person can make a livelihood in densely populated narrow roads for fruit/vegetable/grain market as transportation. Each tricycle can have commercial advertisements on them so that the disabled people also earn income.

They can assist in pedestrian traffic regulation in busy junctions areas.
In tourist spots, sell tourism information for non-locals.
Act as members of citizens watch in a locality - keep lookout for suspicious strangers, objects etc.

This shows the difference between a Normal Auto Rickshaw and the manual Rickshaw. Now a days not many people use these manual ones and they are struggling. If we build electric motor / solar powered rickshaws to these manual ones then it would be environment friendly, and cheaper to customers and they can have a good living.
