Deepa Kumar, founder, Yashram Lifestyle found a niche with utility apparel for women. Deepa says that the only challenge, in her initial days, she faced was in finding people who were open to speak about their special apparel needs. Deepa shares her entrepreneurial journey with Sahana P Bhat. Excerpts:
How did Yashram Lifestyle became a reality? Why did you venture into this business?
In the retail market we have umpteen apparel stores and brands but I found some utility products which were crucial during pregnancy and menstrual cycles not available in the market. Therefore, I had a yearning to reach out to this section of the society but I never intended to become an entrepreneur.
Yashram Lifestyle forayed into the dynamic retail industry in 2007. Our company provides a very comfortable apparels for women and aid them to lead an active and a stress-free life. We conceptualize, produce and market clothing products.
What is your business strategy?
We intend to reach out to every women particularly young girls, adolescents, pregnant women and nursing mothers. We believe in having strong products. We market our products in retail stores such as Big Bazaar, Health & Glow and SPAR .We are also trying to tie up with few more retail stores and expand our business in future.
What are the successful product lines of your company?
Adira is a patent pending ladies undergarment brand. The period panty ensures women a stress free period. It is leak-proof, hygienic, breathable and skin friendly.Morph Maternity is a clothing line for pregnant women which gives them comfort.
Were there any challenges ?
The major challenge was to reach out to the people in the initial days because people were not open to talk about their discomfort during pregnancy and menstrual cycle.
Fortunately, I had no other obstacles in setting up this company. I had a great team who supported me in every phase of my business.
What is your advice to the aspiring entrepreneurs?
Entrepreneurs should dream and work on their dreams. Once dreams become a reality, they should not stop at it. Instead they should dream new and work on it. Dream gives an aim to be an achiever.
