Dr Manjunath serves as the Executive Director of SKDRDP and is considered an authority on microfinance, the promotion and management of SHGs, micro-insurance and financial assistance to the needy. Innovative schemes by Dr Manjunath have helped farmers, women and the underprivileged to access financial help at their doorstep.
He brings with him over three decades of experience in banking, development, enterprise creation and working with women organisations.
Dr Manjunath is the recipient of Best Veterinarian Award for Karnataka and Dakshina Kannada Zilla Rajyotsava Award. He has been instrumental in conceiving a special project to provide livelihood to beedi-rolling women of Dakshin Kannada district in Karnataka.
In its endeavour to make the rural poor self-reliant, SKDRDP has taken up various programmes. Under the Siri project, women SHGs are motivated, trained and assisted in setting up various group ventures. These groups are given professional assistance in acquiring skills, finance, raw material procurement, production and marketing of the products. Siri is not dependent on grants by the government for carrying out its activities. Every SHG contributes `1,000 each, forming a capital base of `22 lakh. SKDRDP has contributed `9 lakh to the programme. Considering the success of the initiative, Siri Gramodyoga Samsthe is now planning to increase the number of SHGs in the coming years.
