Bhatt has been responsible for Cleartrip’s corporate strategy and implementation of its portal. Cleartrip has had several firsts in the Indian market, including the first online air ticket auction and the first travel site to be integrated with a Global Distribution System for air ticket bookings.
Bhatt believes that focusing on customers and not competition is the secret behind the success of any business. This thinking has clearly worked in turning the easy and hassle-free travel booking experience into a success story.
Since its inception in 2006, Cleartrip has established itself as a premier travel planner company. With a high speed search engine which has a proprietary display of round trip flights on the same page, the ability to combine airlines, specify price ranges, departure and arrival time displays, paper or electronic ticket options and the ability to specify stops in a journey, it has become a market leader in the travel sector. In 2008, in partnership with Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, Cleartrip launched online train bookings. Users can check train seat availability for 15 days, review fares from multiple classes and get detailed information on train routes and stops. Recently, the company launched the first mobile travel product in India, Cleartrip Mobile. It offers customers SMS-based train and flight ticket booking and features like checking the status and details of the trip.
In 2006 and 2007, Cleartrip received the best travel website award by PC World. In 2007, it also won the award for the most user-friendly website of the travel sector by JuxtConsult. In the same year, Skoch Consultancy Services and Red Hat awarded the site for their excellence in open source technologies implementation. In 2008, the PC World Web Awards termed Cleartrip the ‘Google of Travel Sites.’
