The original social entrepreneur, long before the term became fashionable.

Verghese Kurien

The original social entrepreneur, long before the term became fashionable. Kurien came from Kerala, went to the US, worked his magic in Gujarat and gave farmers all over the country the power to negotiate the best price for their produce. In the process, he pitch forked India from being a recipient of milk aid to becoming the world’s largest producer of milk and milk products. He also built the first pan Indian, Indian brand, Amul.

Great Leader, Great Career, but little sad end part of the career
written by Bhuvnesh Thakar, September 25, 2008
YEs, Dr. Kurien inspired lot of people. He brought on a revolution. Only thing that made me sad was how he could not grace fully withdraw from day to day work when his health was failing and he could not work. He could have remained a much bigger father figure to dairy industry. We see lot of elderly people who are reluctant to let it go even when their health and other such age related issues does not allow them to work at capacities they used to work at. We must teach this also at Management schools. How to retire grace fully. One very important field for this is POLITICS. One shining example is of Mr. Narayan Murthy. Also, Mr, Ratan Tata had made a rule in all TAta Companies for retirement age and hence, they were saved and are shining even in new economy with fresh ideas.
