Ajay RaiBy Ajay Rai.

The response to my column on mentoring has been, as I expected, very meaningful. Readers seriously making efforts to be entrepreneurs shared with me thoughts and facts that they rarely [or never] shared with anybody else. This was very flattering – and scary! For, when somebody shares his/her inner most thoughts, it brings in strong element of special responsibility, central to the cause – and subject.

Though these communications were basically to seek mentoring from me, we [Editor-DARE Magazine and I] decided that we must share the contents with other readers of the magazine. For, one of the basic tenets of entrepreneurship is sharing. Silicon Valley, Mecca to all entrepreneurs worldwide, is full of legends that illustrate this fact, and I intend sharing [!] this through future installments.

We live in very sensitive times and it was essential that I seek concurrence from these readers about using the contents for this column. I wrote to them “Will it be okay if I include contents of your mail, and my responses, along with other related aspects, in my column with DARE Magazine? I can block out your name, if you so desire.”

The responses were simple, yet amazing. For example, one of the readers who had written to me, Brajesh Kumar responded thus: “Sure, Sir, you can use the content and I have no difficulty if you want to use the name. You do not need to block it, as I have nothing to hide from the world.” These words were music to me, since they also illustrated strongly, yet very simply, one of the basic qualities that an entrepreneur has – to dare!

Brajesh had written to me a detailed letter, telling me almost everything I needed to know. We were now at a stage where we had to correlate what we [Brajesh and I] knew, with what was needed, and how we could use the result to ensure the best response possible. A process had to begin, and it has. We  expect to accomplish our task with great accuracy. For we have the ways and means to do it effectively.

[In this story, I have kept rewriting and editing to the minimum, keeping the “Brajesh flavor” intact!]

At the end, let me reiterate that I would love to hear from all of you. For, as I said earlier, this is an interactive effort, and I will be happy to respond to specific queries relating to the personal, professional, educational, and, possibly the most important, a career choice that is challenging and satisfying and is best for you. So, please feel free to write to me. I can be contacted through email [drajayrai@gmail.com] and/or the good old letters [Dr. Ajay Rai, 153/18 Shipra Path, Mansarovar, Jaipur 302020]. For those who would like to, please be assured, definite confidentiality will be maintained. From others, please mention that you have no objection to my using contents of your communication for sharing with other readers when you write to me.

Remember, as I said earlier, inside all of us there is an entrepreneur. And s/he is continuously trying to come out, and be counted. Let him/her.

Everybody needs a mentor!
