As his children lay on the hospital bed recuperating from jaundice, a teary-eyed Mahesh Gupta vowed to fight water-borne disease. It turned out to be the beginning of great things. For sometimes, as celebrated writer Robert Brault said, 'the eye sheds a tear to find its focus'.
Until then, Gupta’s life had been folloawing the expected path: a mechanical engineer from Kanpur, he was running S S Engineering, had many creative ideas, and did not use a water purifier at home. It might have continued this way, had jaundice not hit so close. Gupta went hunting for a truly reliable water purifier, but could not find any that provided 100 per cent protection. Disappointed, but determined, he decided to put his engineering skills to work.
In 1995, he came up with Kent RO, the name that brought reverse osmosis technology to India for the first time. Kent RO System is, today, a household name, protecting thousands from the yellow illness.
