University of Dayton and PSG College of Technology jointly organized a competition on "Innovative Product Design for Alternate Energy" and the names of finalists were announced in the city. The focus of the program was to fill the need for qualified clean and renewable energy engineers and also pack the urgency for economical energy sources by educating people and conducting research to find various cost effective energy alternatives. The program was also aimed at offering employment of educated engineers to fit the bills of renewable energy based companies in India and elsewhere.
For the competition, students were invited to participate individually, strictly engineering students and students having completed their 6th semester - Engineering were eligible to be a part of this lucrative session. The last date of submitting the executive summaries was 31st July '09. Out of innumerable entries, 100 innovative ideas were shortlisted by 31st August '09; the shortlisted lucky engineers then had to produce their presentation by 15th October '09. The expert panel members reviewed the finalist's entries and shared the top 20 contestants' details by 30th November '09.
Prateek Singhal of IIT Kharagpur, was announced as the first prize winner of this innovative product design for alternative energy competition. Following him was the second prize winner, V.S.Mirudhuneka of CIT Coimbatore. L. Raghavn of Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, acquired the third prize.
The judges for the competition were Guru Subramnayam, Professor, University of Dayton, USA. R. Vasudevan, Bharatidasan University and Ragupathy, PSG Industrial Institute, Coimbatore.
The winners won attractive cash prizes against their pioneering thought process on the given theme, in addition to which the first place winner of Greenergy competition Prateek Singhal of IIT Kharagpur was offered a full tuition scholarship from the University of Dayton's engineering program in "Renewable & Clean Energy".
Totally exhilarated about his success in the program, Prateek Singhal said - "I am really impressed by the Greenergy Competition organized by the University of Dayton & PSG Tech. Events like this will definitely encourage the young generation to think out of box and come up with new technologies which is not only economical but also environment friendly".
Students through this remarkable competition laid by University of Dayton, competed with participants from around a thousand institutions which brought forth incalculable number of ideas towards making this planet a better place to live in.
