The Government constituted a Committee on 16.06.2008 for ‘Allocation of Access {GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications)/ CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access)} Spectrum and Pricing’. The Committee has submitted its Report on 13th May 2009. The salient points of the recommendations of the Committee are given below
The recommendations of the Committee have wider implications on Telecom Sector and to public at large. Therefore on 7th July 2009, Government has sought the recommendations of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on the recommendations/ comments of the Report of the Committee. Being a policy matter, no time frame can be fixed by which there recommendation are to be implemented.
This was stated by Gurudas Kamat, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology in Lok Sabha.
