The Confederation of Indian Industry (SR) through its Education Sub-Committee, launched the Second edition of Innovator 2010 .This is driven by C R Swaminathan, Chief Executive, PSG Institutions, Coimbatore. Innovator is a competition aimed at identifying and showcasing the innovative ideas of college students from Technical, Business and Social streams in the Southern Region. It is a three stage project centric contest designed to test the technical/business and social concepts, presentation and creative skills of the participants. The competition was launched in October 2010 and students were asked to send in abstracts of their innovative ideas under three streams; Technical, Business and Social.
In December 2010 nearly 125 entries were sent in by 350 students from 35 colleges and institutions across Southern Region and these entries were evaluated by a panel of eminent jury members. The panel of jury consists of representatives from Cognizant, Take Solutions, TCS, TAFE, Ashok Leyland, Asian Business School, Amalgamations Group. The entries were evaluated and 56 entries were chosen for the second stage. At this stage teams were asked to send in final papers of their project/idea and 46 teams sent in entries at this stage. The papers received would be further and be invited for the final event which is scheduled on 11 March 2011 at Hotel Accord Metropolitan, Chennai.
CII is partnering with Cognizant as the Title sponsor and Surgeforth Technologies as Knowledge partner and GKM College of Engineering and Technology as Principal Sponsor. The final event provides a platform for the budding innovators among the student community to showcase their creativity and unleash the entrepreneurial spirit amongst students. It would also give Industry an opportunity to engage with the best of students from regional / sub-urban colleges. These students are given an opportunity to showcase their ideas at an exposition. Students would present, market and justify their ideas to industry members, angel investors and venture capitalists.
