Ministry of Water Resources approved a Farmers Participatory Action Research Programme (FPARP) at 5000 demonstration sites at the cost of Rs. 24.46 crore in 25 States/UTs of the country. Agricultural Universities, Indian Council of Agricultural Research Institutes, International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Water and Land Management Institutes (WALMIS) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) have been identified for demonstrating farm practices & irrigation technologies aimed at increasing yield and income per drop of water.

These can be used by State Government Departments and Organizations. The State Governments extend the water saving technologies to the farmers through their Extension Departments and Water and Land Management Institutes (WALMls). Ministry of Agriculture promotes transfer of technologies for water conservation and water use efficiency through its programs / schemes namely; National Food Security Mission (NFSM), Integrated Cotton Development Program, Integrated Scheme of Oilseed, Pulses, Oilpalm and Maize (ISOPOM) and Macro Management Mode of Agriculture (MMA) etc.
