A total number of 8710 rural godowns have been constructed under the Rural Godown Scheme during the period from 2006-07 up to October, 2009. Major States benefiting from the scheme include Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Karnataka, West Bengal and Rajasthan.
Women entrepreneurs can also avail the benefit of subsidy under the scheme for construction of godowns. Since inception of the Rural Godown Scheme, 1077 women entrepreneurs have availed the benefit of subsidy under the scheme.
This information was given by K.V. Thomas, Minister of State for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
