US Restaurant reviewer Yelp files for IPO

Yelp is a US-based local review and search website with a social networking flavour. It was started in 2004 incubated by MRL Ventures. Yelp filed for an IPO, reports OmMalik, to raise $100 M.

There is an interesting story behind the success of Yelp. It started life as a email recommendation service which did not take off. It then re-launched in 2004 as a user review site.

The IPO is especially interesting in the light of Google's acquisition of Zagat, a competing reviews publisher which was started in 1979.    Google paid $150 million for Zagat earlier this year.

Can someone please  ping me on Indian version of Yelp, Burrp.
