For my blog on Faster-Traffic updates (on FM), I was searching for images on a foreign stock photo website. When I typed, “traffic”, it showed lots of images of roads in developed countries replete with cars, but in an organized fashion, with neatness. However, when I added “India” to “traffic” during search, it showed only this image, a buffalo sitting on middle of road with few rickety vehicles around it.
This conveys the image some of the people in developed countries have of India. Any need for further explanation?
With Commonwealth Games around, and already a big part of India’s image having gone for a toss, its time for us to gear up and do our best to make sure, the image conveyed to us from such a ‘search’ gets changed for our foreign guests when they go back,. We cannot change this search, but can surely influence their experience when they come here. May be not in traffic, but may be in other aspects. This interpretation of mine may be questioned by some, but there is definitely something we need to learn from this, even though the image doesn't portray the right situation.
After all, What looks good, Sells.
